PREMIERE: Gux Jimenez, Mental Order & Tim Othy – Baham [Strangers Beats]

Posted by

Gux Jimenez, Mental Order and Tim Othy come together for their first artist EP via Antrim’s Strangers Beats. This trio of Latin American talents owns a collective discography highlighted by releases on BeatFreak Limited, Juicebox Music and Inner Symphony. Now following a remix for Balkan Connection, the trio present their debut original project entitled ‘Astros’.

Beginning with ‘Baham’ the character is rich and warm from the outset, as punchy beats and a chunky groove set the piece in motion. Fiery percussion along with vibrant melodies and electric lines methodically fill in the framework, before symphonic overlays bring epic moments leading into the break. Expertly crafted, the centrepiece is a compelling canopy of sound, tense yet euphoric, building towards a ghostly vocal sweep and buzzing finale. This one’s big!

The companion piece ‘Lesath’ follows suit with an equally emotive vibe. Robust and groovy, it’s meaty low end is perfectly carved, setting the foundation for waves of detailed percussion and effervescent electronics. A choir like theme elevates the mood following the main break, marrying wonderfully with warm pads and astral effects for an exhilarating conclusion. It rounds out two top tier productions from Gux Jimenez, Mental Order & Tim Othy, who are a trio who should most certainly continue working on new music together. Highly recommended.
