Ask implies no more than the putting of a question but what’s questioning?

What does it mean to ask a question, and what is questioning?

Ask (Verb), question, interrogate, query, and inquire, means to address a person to gain information. Ask implies no more than the putting of a question. For example, asking for directions usually suggests asking a series of questions.

Is questioning someone the same as asking questions about someone?

Asking about someone is like asking for directions. It may imply a series of questions to gain insight into the other person’s mindset.

But I think there’s a difference between asking questions and questioning

When I ask questions, I show interest and curiosity and want to learn about something or someone, but when I have a questioning attitude, I express disbelief, doubt, or skepticism about something or someone.

Example:

Do you get a reply?

What kind of reply do they give you?

Does anyone reply to you?

Conclusion: One can ask someone a question or ask someone a question about someone, and one can question someone’s foundations. All three questions are at different levels.
